DESIGN FOR GAMING

I’ve always enjoyed digital worlds. I grew up playing point-and-click Sierra adventure games on an Uncle-built early PC clone with 256k of RAM. I’ve worked as a character designer and creative lead on a variety of branded and mobile games for entertainment companies as well as original titles.

An iOS tower defense game pitting farmers against vegetable stealing aliens from another world. 2D sketches were translated into 3D, using 2D sprites with false depth for efficient texturing.

STRANGE ATTRACTION

Strange Attraction is an ad-supported gravity flip puzzle game created for Turner Broadcasting / Warner Bros. Discovery. A small game built with large studio vigor, Strange Attraction’s unique gameplay drove new sign ups to the network’s casual gaming hub.

The game’s gravity flip mechanic was unique enough for a casual game that it benefited from a tutorial. The ten level game could be completed in about 40 minutes, so email capture and login drove sign ups and allowed players to load previous games.

Character design

These characters were created for a Farmers Insurance ad that combined live actors and animated characters. It was important that the illustrated characters shared a likeness with the actor, so I imagined what the actor’s parents might look, taking visual queues from Rob Riener and Jessica Walter parental archetypes.
